Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

• 14 tbsp salted butter
• 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp flaky sea salt
• 1 cup + 2 tbsp dark brown sugar, firmly packed
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar

• 2 large eggs, at room temperature
• 1 cup milk chocolate chips
• 1 cup dark chocolate chips
• 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips

Directions

1. Brown the Butter: In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter, stirring frequently, until it’s fully melted and has a light brown color, about 2 minutes. Transfer the browned butter, including the brown bits, to a heatproof bowl. Chill in the refrigerator until it returns to room temperature, approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
2. Preheat and Prepare: Once the butter is at room temperature, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and sea salt. Set aside.
4. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the chilled brown butter with both sugars on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Mix in the vanilla. Then, add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
5. Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Turn off the mixer. Using a wooden spoon, gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
6. Add Chocolate Chips: Fold in the trio of chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
7. Shape and Bake: Roll the dough into large balls, using about 3 tablespoons of dough for each. Arrange the balls on the prepared baking sheets, leaving ample space between them. Bake one sheet at a time for 10 to 11 minutes, or until the cookies are golden around the edges but still soft in the center.
8. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
