Cajun-Seasoned Crispy Fried Shrimp
Ingredients:
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled (tails left on or off, as preferred)
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups panko breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- Approximately 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
- Prepare the Oil:
- Pour the vegetable oil into a large, heavy-bottomed frying pan or skillet and heat over medium to medium-high heat. Aim for a temperature of about 350°F (175°C) if you’re using a thermometer.
- Season the Shrimp:
- Use paper towels to pat the shrimp dry. This helps the seasoning stick and ensures a crispier fry. Once dry, toss the shrimp with Cajun seasoning to coat evenly.
- Breading Station:
- Arrange three shallow dishes for a breading station. Place the flour in the first dish, the beaten eggs in the second, and the panko breadcrumbs in the third.
- Coat the Shrimp:
- Take each piece of seasoned shrimp and dip it first in the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally, coat it thoroughly with the panko breadcrumbs. Ensure each shrimp is well-coated at each step for the crispiest outcome.
- Fry the Shrimp:
- Carefully place the breaded shrimp into the hot oil. Fry the shrimp in batches to avoid overcrowding, which can lower the oil’s temperature and result in soggy shrimp. Fry until the shrimp are golden brown and crispy, typically about 2 to 3 minutes per side, depending on the size of the shrimp.
- Drain and Serve:
- Once fried, use a slotted spoon to transfer the shrimp to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve hot for the crispiest texture.
Enjoy your crispy Cajun fried shrimp as a delicious appetizer or a main dish, accompanied by your favorite dipping sauces or sides.
