Homemade Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients:
- Oil for frying
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
- 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
Instructions:
- Prepare for Frying:
- Pour 2-3 inches of oil into a deep pan or pot. Heat over medium heat until the oil reaches 265°F (130°C).
- Set Up Dredging Stations:
- In a shallow bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and pepper.
- In another shallow bowl, whisk the eggs with the water until well combined.
- Place the Italian breadcrumbs in a third shallow bowl.
- Coat the Cheese Sticks:
- Take each mozzarella stick and first coat it in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully covered.
- Dip the flour-coated cheese stick into the egg mixture, letting any excess drip off.
- Finally, roll the cheese stick in the breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to ensure the crumbs stick well. Place the breaded cheese sticks on a plate or cooling rack.
- Frying:
- Once the oil is hot, carefully fry the mozzarella sticks in batches of 3-4 to avoid overcrowding the pan. Fry each batch for 2-3 minutes or until they are light golden brown and crispy.
- Cooling and Serving:
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried mozzarella sticks onto a cooling rack or a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Serve the mozzarella sticks warm with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
Enjoy these homemade mozzarella sticks as a delicious snack or appetizer, perfect for sharing with friends and family.
