Chocolate-Filled Puff Pastry

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet baking chocolate
  • 1 egg
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon coarse sugar for sprinkling

Instructions:

  1. Prepare for Baking:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
  2. Prepare the Pastry:
    • Place the thawed puff pastry sheet on a cutting board. Cut the pastry into 6 equal rectangles. Lay pieces of the semi-sweet baking chocolate on the left side of each rectangle.
  3. Fold and Seal:
    • Carefully fold the pastry over the chocolate, sealing it inside. Transfer the filled pastries to the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced apart.
  4. Egg Wash:
    • In a small bowl, beat the egg with a tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Brush the tops of each puff pastry with the egg wash. If desired, sprinkle a tablespoon of coarse sugar on top for added texture and sweetness.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-22 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown on top and fully cooked through.
  6. Cool and Serve:
    • Once baked, remove the pastries from the oven and allow them to cool on the countertop for about 10 minutes before serving.

Enjoy these warm, chocolate-filled puff pastries as a delicious treat anytime!
