Chocolate-Filled Puff Pastry
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 4 ounces semi-sweet baking chocolate
- 1 egg
- Optional: 1 tablespoon coarse sugar for sprinkling
Instructions:
- Prepare for Baking:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
- Prepare the Pastry:
- Place the thawed puff pastry sheet on a cutting board. Cut the pastry into 6 equal rectangles. Lay pieces of the semi-sweet baking chocolate on the left side of each rectangle.
- Fold and Seal:
- Carefully fold the pastry over the chocolate, sealing it inside. Transfer the filled pastries to the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced apart.
- Egg Wash:
- In a small bowl, beat the egg with a tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Brush the tops of each puff pastry with the egg wash. If desired, sprinkle a tablespoon of coarse sugar on top for added texture and sweetness.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-22 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown on top and fully cooked through.
- Cool and Serve:
- Once baked, remove the pastries from the oven and allow them to cool on the countertop for about 10 minutes before serving.
