Deli Squares
Ingredients:
- 1 (17 oz) box frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 12 slices mozzarella cheese, divided
- 6-8 slices deli ham
- 6-8 slices deli turkey
- 1/3 cup mayo
- 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
- 1 cup roasted red peppers, drained
- 1/3 cup sliced red onion
- 1 cup arugula
- 1 egg, beaten
Preparation:
- Preheat and Prepare:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Unroll the thawed puff pastry and use a rolling pin to slightly thin and enlarge the dough.
- Place one sheet of the dough on the prepared baking sheet. Using a sharp knife, score a 1-inch border around the edges of the dough.
- Bake the pastry for 10-12 minutes, or until puffed and golden.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- While the pastry bakes, mix together the mayo and spicy brown mustard in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Assemble the Deli Squares:
- After the initial bake, allow the pastry to cool slightly, then gently press down the middle to flatten it.
- Start layering the fillings: place 6 slices of mozzarella cheese on the flattened pastry, followed by the deli ham and turkey.
- Spoon the mayo-mustard mixture over the meats and spread evenly.
- Add the roasted red peppers, sliced red onion, and arugula.
- Top and Seal:
- Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the layered fillings.
- Use a fork to crimp the edges together, sealing the squares.
- Brush the top of the dough with the beaten egg.
- Bake:
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Serve:
- Serve the deli squares warm or chilled, as desired.
