Heaven on Earth Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 prepared Angel Food Cake
- 1 package Instant Vanilla pudding mix (3.4 ounces)
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 can cherry pie filling (20 ounces)
- 1 container Cool Whip (8 ounces)
- 1 tablespoon toasted almond slices (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Cake:
- Cut the angel food cake into cubes and set aside.
- Make the Pudding Mixture:
- In a bowl, whisk together the pudding mix, milk, sour cream, and almond extract until smooth. Set aside.
- Assemble the Cake:
- In a 13×9-inch baking dish, layer half of the cake cubes evenly on the bottom.
- Spoon 3/4 of the cherry pie filling over the cake cubes.
- Add the remaining cake cubes on top of the cherry layer.
- Add the Pudding Layer:
- Pour the prepared pudding mixture over the cake layers, spreading it out evenly.
- Top with Cool Whip:
- Spoon the Cool Whip over the pudding layer, spreading it smoothly.
- Dollop the remaining cherry pie filling on top.
- Chill and Serve:
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Just before serving, sprinkle toasted almond slices on top, if desired.
